THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a significant development, the state government has ordered the release of Sherin Karanavar, who was convicted for the 2009 murder of her husband Bhaskara Karanavar. The decision comes after the remaining sentence of Karanavar was remitted by the state cabinet.
The recommendation for Karanavar’s release was made in January by the state cabinet, which includes the names of 11 prisoners eligible for consideration of the governor, who holds the constitutional mandate to remit punishment.
