THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a significant development, the state government has ordered the release of Sherin Karanavar, who was convicted for the 2009 murder of her husband Bhaskara Karanavar. The decision comes after the remaining sentence of Karanavar was remitted by the state cabinet.

The recommendation for Karanavar’s release was made in January by the state cabinet, which includes the names of 11 prisoners eligible for consideration of the governor, who holds the constitutional mandate to remit punishment.

Once she completes her current parole and returns to prison, the order for her release will be finalized. The exact date of her release has not yet been announced.

Karanavar was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2013 for the murder of her husband Bhaskara Karanavar in Kannur district. The case sparked nationwide outrage due to its gruesome nature and the lengthy trial that followed.

This decision has garnered mixed reactions from various quarters, with supporters arguing for the right to second chances and opponents questioning the leniency shown in light of the heinous crime committed.

As more details emerge, stay informed on this developing story.
