In a remarkable medical feat, a mother from Kochi, successfully performed a life-saving liver transplant on her 9-month-old child on June 28, 2025. The child, who was born with a rare liver disease, underwent the complex procedure at a private hospital in the city.

This unique case, though unprecedented, is gaining worldwide attention as it marks the first instance of a parent performing a liver transplant on their child in India. The surgery, which lasted for over eight hours, was a collaborative effort between the surgical team and the mother, who donated 75% of her liver to save her child’s life.
