The ongoing impasse between private bus owners and the Kerala government over a demand for an increase in student ticket fares has taken another turn, with the operators announcing preparations for a fresh strike.

The announcement comes after talks between student organizations, bus owners, and the Transport Secretary failed to produce a resolution. The private bus operators have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the current fare structure, arguing that it does not cover operational costs effectively.

The bus owners are also pressing for the timely renewal of permits and the withdrawal of mandatory police clearance certificates for staff. They are particularly opposed to the compulsory use of e-challans for issuing penalties, which they consider excessive.

The exact date for the strike has not been announced yet, but it is expected to be made public soon. This development could potentially disrupt transportation services across Kerala and impact thousands of commuters daily.

The government has not issued an official statement regarding the matter as of press time. However, it is hoped that both parties will engage in constructive dialogue to find a mutually beneficial solution that maintains the interests of both commuters and operators.
