In a significant development on July 11, 2025, the Kerala High Court has granted bail to Sukanth Suresh P, a former officer of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), who was accused in connection with the suicide of his female colleague. The deceased, a 24-year-old IB officer serving at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport’s Immigration Department, was found dead near railway tracks in Chakka on March 24, 2025.

During the hearing, evidence presented by the prosecution included WhatsApp chats suggesting that Sukanth Suresh P had multiple simultaneous relationships and displayed signs of harassment and dominance towards his female colleague.

The decision to grant bail was not without controversy, as the case has sparked a wider debate on workplace harassment and the need for stricter accountability in such cases. Critics argue that the granting of bail could send a wrong message about the seriousness of such offenses.

Meanwhile, Sukanth Suresh P’s legal representative, Bechu Kurian Thomas, argued that his client had been cooperative with the investigation and was now awaiting trial in a fair and expeditious manner. The matter is now scheduled to come up for further hearing in the near future.
