In a decision that could potentially impact the Malayalam film industry, the Kerala High Court on Thursday, June 26, granted anticipatory bail to the producers of the hit Malayalam film “Manjummel Boys” in an alleged cheating case. The dispute between the parties revolves around business transactions, primarily concerning the agreement in sharing the proceeds of the film.

The High Court’s decision came after hearing a plea from the producers on Thursday. Notably, earlier this year, a coordinate bench of the High Court had refused a plea for quashing the criminal proceedings after an investigation officer in the case filed an objection stating that a portion of the money invested by one of the complainants was allegedly diverted to the personal account of one of the accused.

Shawn Anthony, one of the producers of “Manjummel Boys”, and Soubin Shahir, the film’s director and a prominent actor in Malayalam cinema, are among those named in the case. The film, released in 2023, was a significant commercial success.

The anticipatory bail order grants the producers relief from arrest until July 15, 2025, provided they abide by certain conditions set by the court. As the case proceeds, it remains to be seen how this development will affect the ongoing investigations and potential legal actions related to the financial disagreements between the parties.
