Thiruvananthapuram, August 4: In a significant development, Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar has expressed his readiness to cooperate with the state government regarding permanent Vice-Chancellor (VC) appointments in APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) and Digital University Kerala (DUK), provided that the court resolves the ongoing legal case about the formation of the search committee.
The Governor made this statement during a meeting with Ministers P Rajeev and R Bindu, as reported by sources familiar with the matter. He emphasized that temporary appointments for VC positions in KTU and DUK can face objections and should be addressed by approaching the Supreme Court if necessary.
The SFI (Students’ Federation of India), a political organization predominantly active in Kerala, has expressed an aggressive stance on this issue in recent reports. It is crucial to note that this development takes place as the court is expected to address the case concerning the search committee formation soon.
The state government and Governor Arlekar will work together once the legal dispute is resolved, according to the Governor’s statement. This move aims to ensure a smooth appointment process for permanent Vice-Chancellors in both universities.
Meanwhile, stakeholders await further updates on the court proceedings related to the search committee formation, as this issue plays a significant role in determining the leadership of two key educational institutions in Kerala.
