In a weather advisory issued today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rainfall across several districts in Kerala. The yellow alert is effective for Kannur and Kasaragod districts starting Monday, July 17th. According to the forecast, additional districts including Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad are also expected to experience heavier rain from Wednesday onwards.

The IMD predicts that besides the heavy rain, winds may reach speeds of up to 60 kmph, posing additional risks, particularly along the coast. In response to this warning, authorities have extended the ban on fishing due to the continued rough sea conditions.

Political parties in Kerala have been urged to take precautions and ensure the safety of their workers and supporters. For instance, the Malappuram district committee of the BJP has called for increased vigilance in areas prone to flooding and landslides, particularly during campaign activities. In a statement, Prabhash, the district president of BJP Malappuram, urged all party members to adhere to safety guidelines and prioritize their well-being above politics.

The IMD has been monitoring the situation closely and will provide regular updates as needed. Citizens in the affected areas are advised to stay indoors during heavy rain and avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency services have been alerted and are prepared to respond quickly should any incidents occur. For more information, residents can contact their local authorities or visit the IMD’s official website.
