New Delhi – The Indian National Congress has responded to the Election Commission’s dismissal of its ‘vote chori’ (vote rigging) allegations, using humor and a metaphor involving coconuts and cows. In a series of posts on social media platform X, the Kerala unit of the Congress subtly criticized the Election Commission’s press conference held on Sunday.

The Kerala Congress handle on X described the EC’s press conference as “in a coconut shell”, implying that they found the response unsatisfactory and lacking in depth. In another post, they posed a rhetorical question about why cow’s milk is considered nutritious, using this question in a sarcastic manner to criticize the Election Commission’s dismissal of their allegations.

Pawan Khera, Congress spokesperson, addressed the media in New Delhi today saying, “The Congress has always valued transparency and fairness in elections. We have raised these concerns because we believe in democracy and the rule of law. Our comments on social media were meant to engage with the public and express our dissatisfaction in a light-hearted manner.”

The Election Commission is yet to respond to the Congress’s comments, but the incident has sparked a lively debate on social media platforms, with netizens expressing their views on both sides.

As the 2025 elections approach, the Congress party and the Election Commission will continue to be under scrutiny, as they navigate the complexities of ensuring free and fair elections in India’s largest democracy.
