In a move that could have significant repercussions for the Congress party in Kerala, it has suspended Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil following allegations of obscene conduct. The decision comes after writer Honey Bhaskaran and model Rini Ann George levied charges against the legislator.

Mamkootathil had earlier stepped down from his post as state president of the Youth Congress, awaiting an internal party inquiry into these allegations. On Sunday, the Congress in Kerala stated that a careful decision would be made regarding RahulMamkootathilafter consultations among its senior leaders.

The Congress party in Kerala is under mounting pressure from within its ranks and opposition parties to take action against Mamkootathil. A protest march demanding his resignation was carried out by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

The developments in Kerala come at a time when the Congress party is already grappling with internal conflicts and challenges to its leadership. As the investigation proceeds, it remains to be seen how this incident will impact the party’s standing in the state and nationally.
