In the troubling news that has emerged from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a 29-year-old woman from Kerala’s Kollam district, Athulya Sekhar, was found dead in her apartment in Sharjah. The family has claimed that her husband, also a resident of Kollam and named as Satheesh, had harassed her over dowry demands since their marriage in 2014.

According to the victim’s mother, Athulya was subjected to physical abuse between July 18 and July 19 by her husband, who is said to have choked her, kicked her stomach, and hit her head with a plate, ultimately leading to her tragic death.

This shocking incident has stirred up emotions in Kerala’s Kollam district, where the victim and her husband hail from. TrackLatestNewsLive, a regional news outlet based in the state, has been closely following this story since the revelation of the unfortunate incident on Saturday.

Investigations into Athulya Sekhar’s death are currently being handled by local authorities in Sharjah, and efforts are being made to bring her husband, Nidheesh Valiyaveettil, back to India for questioning. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu-based activists and organizations have demanded stern action against the accused, urging authorities to ensure justice for Athulya’s family.

The case serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing issue of dowry harassment in Kerala and beyond. It is crucial that every effort be made to protect women from such forms of violence, both within India and abroad. As this story develops, it is hoped that authorities will take swift action to bring justice for Athulya Sekhar’s family and work towards eradicating the scourge of dowry harassment in our society.
