In an unexpected turn of events, director Jeethu Joseph, best known for his hit film ‘Drishyam’, has taken full responsibility for the underperformance of his latest movie, ‘Mirage’. The film, initially planned as a Bollywood production, ended up being a Malayalam adaptation.

In an exclusive interview, Joseph stated that the lack of audience-pleasing twists was one of the key factors contributing to the film’s disappointing box office performance. He admitted that the focus on the ‘mirage effect’, rather than manufactured suspense, might have been a misstep in the adaptation process.

The admission comes as a surprise given Joseph’s past successes in creating suspenseful narratives. However, the director remains optimistic about future projects and is already working on new ideas.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Congress unit has shared a clip from one of Joseph’s earlier films, Oru Indian Pranayakadha (2013), expressing continued support for the local film industry. The clip was shared with a caption praising the unique charm of Malayalam cinema and urging audiences to continue supporting local productions.

As the dust settles on ‘Mirage’, it remains to be seen how this admission will impact Joseph’s future projects and the broader Malayalam film industry. The focus now shifts towards upcoming releases and whether they can recapture the magic that made films like ‘Drishyam’ such a resounding success.
