In a tense exchange of words, the political debate over the land acquisition of Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University escalated on Sunday. The Muslim Youth League leader P K Firoz and Tavanur MLA K T Jaleel found themselves at the heart of the controversy, with each party refuting the claims made by the other.

The tension began when Firoz accused Jaleel of personally profiting from the transaction related to the university. However, Jaleel denied these allegations vehemently. Firoz’s accusation was based on his claim that in 2016, three separate proposals were submitted to the United Democratic Front (UDF) government regarding the land acquisition, contradicting Jaleel’s statement that the deal was finalized when the UDF was in power.

The dispute took a new turn when former minister Abdu Rabb and TMC leader P V Anvar entered the fray. Rabb defended Jaleel, asserting that he had indeed played a crucial role in the controversial deal, a claim rejected by Firoz.

This political spat is not isolated, as it comes amidst ongoing tensions between the United Democratic Front and the Left Democratic Front in Kerala’s political landscape. The University of Kerala has been at the center of several controversies recently, adding fuel to these political tensions.

As the story unfolds, it remains to be seen how this dispute will affect the political dynamics in Thiruvananthapuram and beyond. For now, the debate continues, with each party presenting its version of events. The University of Kerala and the UDF, led by Govindan, find themselves caught in the crossfire.
