Yellow Alert Issued for Four Districts of Kerala: IMD Predicts Continued Heavy Rainfall

In an official communication from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state of Kerala is set to experience heavy rainfall over the next two days, with four districts – Kasaragod, Kannur, Malappuram, and Idukki – under yellow alert for Thursday. The yellow alert signifies a potential rainfall range of 7 cm to 12 cm. It is important to note that no alerts have been issued for the remaining districts of Kerala at this time.

The weather department’s prediction comes amidst a season of regular monsoon activity across the region, which has seen intermittent heavy rainfall in several districts over the past weeks. Apart from these four districts under yellow alert for Thursday, additional districts including Wayanad have been issued yellow alerts for Friday.

The IMD’s forecast serves as a reminder to the public and local authorities of the need to remain vigilant during the monsoon season, when landslides and floods can pose significant risks in Kerala. The department has urged residents to monitor weather updates closely and take necessary precautions to ensure safety and minimize potential damage.

Meanwhile, political figures across parties have expressed concern over the situation and called for prompt action from relevant authorities to address the needs of those affected by the rainfall. Among these voices is Shri Radhakrishnan, a prominent member of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) who serves as the Lok Sabha representative for Wayanad district.

As the monsoon season continues through August and into September, residents in Kerala are advised to stay informed about weather updates and follow instructions issued by local authorities for their safety. The India Meteorological Department will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates on any changes or additional alerts as necessary.
