In the political landscape of Kerala, the departure of veteran politician V S Achuthanandan from the Congress party has stirred discussions and debates among political analysts and enthusiasts. Achuthanandan, a founding member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has been known for his polarizing stance within the political sphere.

Known for his ability to create divides even where none existed, Achuthananandan served as a state secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) from 1980-1992 and later became a critical insider, challenging power concentrated in the hands of former party proteges.

The news of his departure from the Congress was announced by Paloli Mohammed Kutty, a senior leader in the state unit of the Congress, on July 22, 2025. M V Raghavan, another prominent Congress leader, confirmed the development stating that Achuthanandan’s resignation had been submitted to the party high command.

The reasons behind his decision to leave the Congress are yet to be officially disclosed. However, it is speculated that the former minister might have been dissatisfied with the current political climate within the party or the lack of opportunities to hold significant positions.

The departure of Achuthanandan, a towering figure in Kerala politics, has sparked a wave of reactions and analyses among political commentators. Some view it as an indication of internal discontent within the Congress while others see it as an opportunity for opposition parties to woo the veteran politician.

As the political drama unfolds, the people of Kerala await Achuthanandan’s next move. His decision will undoubtedly shape the political landscape of the state in the coming months. The future of Kerala politics is indeed an intriguing puzzle waiting to be solved.
