In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at promoting safe disposal of electronic waste, the Indian state of Kerala will commence a state-wide collection drive from Tuesday. The Local Self Government Department (LSGD) has established a specific price for gadgets and appliances discarded by households and institutions.

The inauguration ceremony for phase I of this special campaign will take place at Neyyatinkara Municipality on Tuesday, presided over by LSGD Minister M B Rajesh. This initiative marks the beginning of a series of phases that are planned to roll out across Kerala in the coming weeks.

The collection drive is part of Kerala’s commitment to sustainable waste management and responsible e-waste disposal. According to the details provided, the price for discarded gadgets and appliances has been fixed by the LSGD, although these specific figures have not been disclosed in the initial announcement.

The decision to launch this campaign in phases is strategically designed to ensure smooth execution and maximum impact. After the launch at Neyyatinkara Municipality on Tuesday, subsequent phases will be rolled out in other regions across Kerala.

This initiative comes as a response to growing concerns about the environmental and health hazards associated with improper e-waste disposal. By encouraging responsible waste management practices, Kerala aims to lead by example and inspire other states to follow suit.

As the campaign unfolds, more details are expected to emerge regarding the specifics of the price for discarded gadgets and appliances, as well as the progress and impact of the collection drive in different regions across Kerala.
