In a tense turn of events, the state capital witnessed clashes between demonstrators and police on Thursday, July 10. The clashes took place outside the university headquarters in Palayam and near Raj Bhavan, the official residence of Governor Rajendra Arlekar who also serves as the Chancellor of Kerala University.

The protests were initiated by various youth and student organizations, rallying against an ongoing conflict between the Registrar and the Vice Chancellor of Kerala University. The central issue in contention is the reinstatement of Registrar KS Anil Kumar who had been suspended following a controversial display of a map depicting India without Jammu and Kashmir, causing widespread outrage.

Currently, interim Vice Chancellor Ciza Thomas and acting Vice Chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal are embroiled in a disagreement over the validity of the decision to reinstate Registrar Anil Kumar. The High Court has stepped in to address the matter, scheduling hearings for later this month.

This incident comes at a time when Kerala’s political landscape remains fluid, with various factions expressing their views on the issue and rallying support. As the situation unfolds, it is crucial to maintain a balanced and objective perspective, ensuring that all voices are heard and the facts remain clear.
