In a decision that has sparked discussions in the Indian film industry, the makers of the highly anticipated Malayalam film, “Janaki vs State of Kerala,” have agreed to change the movie’s title following objections from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The CBFC had expressed concerns over the use of “Janaki,” a name associated with the Hindu goddess Sita, deeming it potentially sensitive.

During a hearing at the Kerala High Court on Wednesday, the filmmakers and the CBFC representatives appeared before the court to address the issue. The alternative titles suggested by the CBFC are “V Janaki” and “Janaki V.” However, the final decision will be made after further discussions between the parties involved.

Notably, in one specific courtroom scene, the name “Janaki” will be muted to comply with the CBFC’s request for the film to receive certification. The move has been criticized by some as an infringement on creative freedom, while others argue that it is a necessary step to avoid potential controversy.

The film, starring Union Minister Suresh Gopi, is set to release later this year in Odisha and Kerala, where it has garnered significant attention due to its political themes and high-profile cast members. As the story unfolds, it remains to be seen how this title change will impact the film’s reception among audiences and critics alike.
