In a contrasting move to the nationwide strike called by central trade unions on Wednesday, the Kerala Transport Minister, K B Ganesh Kumar, asserted that state-run KSRTC buses will continue their regular operations. The minister stated that the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) had not received any formal notice from trade unions regarding their participation in the strike.

Despite the call for a nationwide strike by various central trade unions, including the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), and the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), the minister emphasized that employees of the KSRTC are happy and content. He assured that KSRTC buses will run as usual in the state of Kerala.

The minister’s statement comes amidst reports of various sectors across India experiencing disruptions due to the strike, which is being observed over demands for higher minimum wages, job security, and social security schemes. In Kerala, however, the transportation sector seems unaffected by these developments.

The stance taken by the Kerala Transport Minister contrasts with reports from other parts of India, where various public and private sectors have been affected by the strike. Reports suggest that industries, schools, and even metro services in several cities have been disrupted due to the strike.

It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold in the coming days, as the central trade unions have vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met by the government. In Kerala, however, the KSRTC’s operations seem to be unaffected by these developments.
