In a weather advisory issued on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across multiple districts in the southern Indian state of Kerala. The IMD has declared yellow alerts in several districts including Kannur, Kasaragod, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta.

According to the IMD, rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period is considered heavy rainfall. The department has urged residents in these districts to remain vigilant as isolated heavy rainfall could lead to flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in hilly regions.

The IMD also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning during this period. Residents have been advised to avoid outdoor activities during such weather conditions.

This forecast comes after a series of heavy rainfall incidents that have affected several parts of Kerala in the recent past, causing significant damage and displacement of people. The state government has appealed to residents to take necessary precautions and follow safety guidelines issued by the authorities.

Meanwhile, local media outlets such as Mathrubhumi have been providing regular updates on the weather situation in Kerala. Reports suggest that the state’s disaster management team is on high alert and is closely monitoring the weather conditions to take prompt action if required.

As of now, the IMD is continuously monitoring the weather patterns and will issue further updates as necessary. The department has urged residents to stay tuned to their official channels for the latest weather updates and advisories.
