Neyyattinkara, located in the heart of Kerala, an inspiring story unfolds. Chandramani C, at the age of 65, has joined the ranks of the state’s literacy icons by passing the Class X equivalency exam with distinction.

Chandramani’s journey to literacy began when she was encouraged and supported by her former ward councilor, Jaya Dali. The role played by Jaya in Chandramani’s decision to join the State Literacy Mission’s Class X equivalency programme cannot be overstated.

Chandramani is not just another senior citizen returning to education; she is also a budding literary talent. Her written work has been publicly demonstrated, showcasing her ambition and determination in the realm of literature.

This remarkable achievement comes after the inspiring stories of Bhageerathi Amma, 105, and Karthyayani Amma, 96, who became poster women of Kerala’s literacy movement by passing their examinations with top marks. Their stories have ignited a spark in many elderly persons across the state to rekindle their connection with the world of letters.

Chandramani’s success serves as a beacon of hope and motivation for those who believe it is never too late to learn. Her story underscores the importance of education at every stage of life, a value that resonates deeply in the Malayalam-speaking community of Kerala.

As Chandramani continues her journey into the realm of literature, she embodies the spirit of resilience and determination that is at the heart of Kerala’s literacy movement. Her story is a testament to the power of encouragement and support in fostering educational ambitions among the elderly.
