In the heart of Kerala, the coastal city of Kozhikode is witnessing a division of opinions among Muslim organisations concerning the ongoing controversy surrounding the implementation of zumba sessions in schools. This split in viewpoints has surfaced following statements made by certain leaders from Samastha Kerala Jem-Iyyathul Ulama and Wisdom Islamic Organisation (WIO), which have sparked a debate on communalism and its potential impact on the education sector.

The kerfuffle erupted after T P Abdulla Koya Madani, the state president of Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen (KNM), criticized these leaders for their public statements that have contributed to societal divisions. In a veiled reference to the remarks, Madani emphasized that religious scholars should exhibit more maturity before making public pronouncements on contentious issues.

The KNM leader argued that rather than stoking communal tensions, these religious leaders should focus their attention on addressing the pressing challenges faced by Kerala’s education sector. As the controversy continues to unfold, the Muslim community and broader society in Kerala eagerly await further discussions and potential resolution of this divisive issue.
