In the ongoing legal battle surrounding the Malayalam film JSK: Janaki v/s State of Kerala, the Kerala High Court heard a petition on Wednesday, June 25, filed by Cosmos Entertainment, the production house behind the movie. The film, starring BJP Union Minister Suresh Gopi, is scheduled for worldwide release on June 27, 2025.

The petition seeks a direction to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to certify the film without further delay. The production house claims that there are no formal objections from the CBFC, but alleges informal objections have been made concerning the use of the name ‘Janaki’.

The movie has been mired in controversy due to its title, which bears resemblance to a popular Hindu goddess. The petition argues that the film’s title is not intended to offend any religious sentiments and is purely a coincidence.

The court hearing comes as a relief for the production house, which has been eagerly awaiting a decision from the CBFC. The film’s release date is just two days away, adding urgency to the proceedings.

The case, inJanaki Vs State, is being presided over by Justice MB Padmakumar. The final ruling on the matter is yet to be announced and will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the film’s release and its box office prospects.
